Run the company on systems, not on memory.

Every decision runs through the owner. Key steps live in one person's head. The tools don't talk to each other. We map how your company really runs, write it down, build AI and automation into the systems you already pay for and train your team to run it.

What is AI consulting for mid-market companies?

AI consulting for mid-market companies is outside help that finds where a growing company loses time and money. Then it builds AI and automation into the systems the company already runs, so the business can grow without adding people for the paperwork. A mid-market company is big enough to run on real systems and real handoffs, and rarely big enough to staff an AI team. FlowChainLabs maps how the work really moves, writes the SOPs, builds the fix, trains the team and stays on as the company's AI growth partner.

Should a mid-market company hire an AI person, buy more software or bring in a firm?

Hire when there is a full year of AI work for one person. Buy software when the process is clean and one tool covers it. Bring in a firm when the work crosses people and systems and nobody has mapped it.

What slows a mid-market company down?

Work that runs on people's memory instead of systems. Every new customer, location or product adds handoffs, and the owner becomes the router.

  • The owner or one manager approves, answers and routes nearly everything.
  • The same order, request or report typed into two or three systems.
  • Spreadsheets everywhere, and three versions of the same number.
  • A key step only one person knows how to do.
  • Growth that means hiring for paperwork. In the Federal Reserve Banks' 2026 report on small employer firms (1 to 499 employees), 46% named hiring or keeping qualified staff as a challenge.

Where are mid-market companies with AI today?

Many have tried it. Few have it built into the work.

  • RSM's 2025 survey of 966 middle market leaders found 91% of their organizations use generative AI. Only one in four of those users has it fully built into core operations.
  • In the same survey, 92% of users hit problems rolling it out, and 70% said they need outside help to get full value from it.
  • The Federal Reserve Banks' 2026 report on small employer firms found just 7% of firms using AI have it fully built into the business. Users named fitting the tools to the business as a top problem (43%).
  • Census Bureau data for mid-September 2026 shows 36.4% of companies with 100 to 249 employees used AI in the prior two weeks.

What should a mid-market company fix first?

The process that waits on one person and touches money. It pays back fastest and frees the person everyone is waiting on.

  • Quotes that sit until the owner signs off.
  • Orders and invoices keyed by hand from email and PDF.
  • The Monday numbers, rebuilt from exports every week.
  • Customer answers that depend on who picks up the email.
  • New hires who learn the job by shadowing the one person who knows it.

How does FlowChainLabs work with an owner-led company?

Side by side with the owner and the people who do the work, one process at a time.

  • Sit with the team and map how the work really moves, workarounds included.
  • Write the SOPs, so the job stops depending on one person's memory.
  • Decide which steps go to software, which to AI and which stay with a person.
  • Build it into the systems you already pay for, in your own accounts.
  • Train the team on their own work, then measure against the starting numbers.
  • Stay on as your AI growth partner and pick the next process.

What changes when the work is written down and automated?

Output rises, and the owner steps out of the middle. These are published results and findings.

  • In a field experiment published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, large textile plants in India got free outside help with modern management practices. Their productivity rose 11% on average.
  • In a survey of 32,000 U.S. manufacturing plants run with the Census Bureau, management practices explained twice as much of the spread in productivity as IT did.
  • MIT NANDA's 2025 study, based on interviews with 52 organizations, found AI tools bought or co-built with outside vendors reached deployment about twice as often as tools built in-house.

Do you need an AI team to get started?

No. You need one person who owns the result and one process worth fixing.

  • A fractional chief AI officer can own the priorities, the tool spend and the rules, without a full-time hire.
  • Forward deployed AI engineers work inside your team when the build is bigger.
  • Your people get trained on their own work, so the know-how stays in the company.
  • In the Federal Reserve Banks' report, 37% of firms planning to use AI named the time to set it up or train people as a top problem. That time is the part we take on.

Questions before
the next step.

Is my company too small for AI consulting?

Not when work passes through several people and systems before it is done. Size matters less than how much of the week goes to retyping, chasing and searching.

Do we have to change our systems?

No. We build inside the ERP, CRM, accounting software and inboxes you already run, and replace a system only when it is the problem.

Is this the same as a forward deployed engineer?

A forward deployed engineer is one way we do the work: an engineer who sits inside your team. A full engagement covers the map, the SOPs, the build, the training and the follow-up.

What if the one person who knows the process leaves?

That is why the SOP comes first. We write down how the job runs, who owns each step and what to check, so the knowledge stays with the company.

What happens to our team's jobs?

The busywork moves off their desks, and their time goes to customers and decisions. A person stays in charge of anything that carries risk.

How do we know it worked?

In your own numbers: hours a week, days from order to cash, errors and rework, measured against a baseline taken before anything changed.

Can you work with our private equity owner?

Yes. Leadership and the board see the same numbers each month, and the SOPs and the automation stay with the company through any sale.

How much does AI consulting cost for a mid-market company?

It follows the processes, the systems and how much support you want after launch. You get a clear proposal after a free strategy call.

How do we get started?

Schedule a strategy call. Bring the work that waits on one person, and we will show you where the first hours come back.

See where the week really goes.

Bring one process to a strategy call. We count the hours your team spends retyping and chasing, the days work waits for an approval and the weeks a new hire needs to learn it. Then you see which hours come back first.
