AI callers

AI is starting to call your business for customers. Does anyone answer?

Google's AI can now phone a local business for a customer to ask about price, openings and stock. Google says it puts together what it learns "from different businesses to present you with a range of options." If nobody picks up, there is nothing from you to pass along. FlowChainLabs answers every call in your business's name, day and night. We set it up and run it, live in 48 hours.

Is Google's AI really calling businesses?

Yes. Google said on July 16, 2025 that calling local businesses with AI was starting to roll out to all Search users in the U.S. On May 19, 2026 it said that for select categories like home repair, beauty or pet care, you can ask Google to call businesses on your behalf. The AI asks what the customer wants to know, such as the price, the earliest opening or whether something is in stock. Then it reports back to the customer.

What is Google's AI calling businesses?

It is a Google feature that calls a business so the customer does not have to. Google uses a few names for it. In Search it is "Have AI check pricing." For products it is "Let Google Call." In AI Mode it is "Check for me." In the Gemini app on some phones it is "Call for me." In each one, the customer asks a question. Google's AI calls the businesses that could answer. The customer gets the answers.

Where does this stand today?

Google has rolled it out in steps, and its own pages are dated.

What does the call ask?

Whatever the customer asked Google to find out. Google's pages name the price, the earliest appointment, what is in stock, your hours and a quote for a job. Gemini's page adds that it can book and confirm appointments, work through phone menus and wait on hold. Google says it gives a business only what the customer shared and confirmed.

How does the call start?

With the AI saying what it is. Gemini's page says every call starts by saying it is "an AI assistant from Google calling on a recorded line on your behalf, stating your name." Google's shopping help says its store calls "clearly identify themselves." Google's Business Profile help says the calls are "monitored and recorded for quality assurance." So expect to hear that it is an AI and who it is calling for.

What happens if nobody answers?

Google's pages do not say. They do say Google limits repeat calls for the same information and avoids late-night and early-morning hours. Call results can take up to 30 minutes to come back. AI Mode calls when a business has little information online. Our read: a call that reaches voicemail gives Google nothing from you to pass along. Google says Search puts together information "from different businesses to present you with a range of options." The business that answers is in the range.

One company has counted. Invoca, a call tracking company, tracked pricing calls from Google's AI from July through November 2025. On December 10, 2025 it reported that 26% were not answered, and that of the calls a person or an AI did answer, 49% gave Google's AI no price. Invoca sells call tracking and AI voice agents, and it has not published how many calls it counted. It is one company's count.

Can I stop Google's AI from calling my business?

Yes. Google gives two ways.

  • On the call: say "Please stop calling my business."

  • In your Business Profile: open your verified profile. Choose More, then Business Profile settings. Choose Advanced settings. Under "Google automated calls and text messages," turn off "Bookings and inquiries from customers."

The same section has two other switches, "Keep your profile up to date" and "Post to your profile on your behalf." Look before you change them. After you opt out, Google says you may still get "manual calls from Google to confirm your business information." Gemini's "Call for me" has its own opt-out for phone numbers. You verify the number with a code, and it joins a block list.

Should you? That is your call. These calls cost you nothing, and each one is a customer asking about a price or an opening while Google asks other businesses the same thing. Opting out means you are not one of the businesses that answer. Never answering does the same thing without deciding to.

What should I have ready?

Five things, none of them hard.

  • The right phone number on your Business Profile. Google calls the number on your profile, so make sure it is one you answer.

  • The prices you will state on the phone. Decide the ranges you give, and which jobs you only quote after a visit. A call that ends with no price gives the customer nothing to compare.

  • The openings a caller can be told. Today and this week, in plain words.

  • The same hours, services and service area on your Business Profile and your website. What an assistant reads should match what you say.

  • An answer when your team is busy. Google says it avoids late-night and early-morning calls, so most will arrive while your people are on a job.

Is this the same as AI agents talking to each other?

It is the first version of the idea, over a phone line. The A2A project's own documentation (read October 29, 2026) pictures a repair shop where "a customer, or their assistant agent, talks to the 'Shop Manager' agent." Standards for that are early. For now, the phone is how Google's assistant reaches you.
