Standalone text back or a front desk that answers?

If you only need an automatic reply, standalone text back may be enough. Front Desk also answers the call and books the visit.

Answer the call first. Text back if it does not connect.

A caller who gets an answer can ask a question and book now. If the call cannot connect, the text identifies the business and asks what they need. Their reply goes to the right conversation, where the booking or callback can continue.

  • Answer: take the call in your business name.
  • Book or hand off: use the calendar and your urgency rules.
  • Missed call: text only with the required consent, identifying the business.
  • Reply: continue the request; stop messages when the caller opts out.

Texts for the calls your team misses

Use your real business name and keep the reply about the caller's request. A missed call is not permission to add someone to a marketing list.

  • Plumbing: This is [business name]. Sorry we missed your call. What plumbing problem do you need help with? Reply STOP to opt out.
  • HVAC: This is [business name]. Sorry we missed you. Is this about heating, cooling or a maintenance visit? Reply STOP to opt out.
  • Med spa: This is [business name]. Sorry we missed your call. Would you like help booking a consultation? Reply STOP to opt out.

TCPA consent and A2P 10DLC registration

TCPA rules govern consent for automated texts. Record the required consent, identify the sender and honor STOP and other opt-out requests. A2P 10DLC registers a business and its messaging use with carriers for US local-number texting. Registration does not replace consent. Keep appointment replies separate from marketing messages.

  • TCR's fee guide, updated August 13, 2026: standard brand registration is $4.50 per submission.
  • Most campaign types cost $10 a month. Low-volume mixed campaigns cost $1.50 a month.
  • These are registry fees, not the total provider bill. Vetting, carrier and messaging charges can also apply.

What if the caller does not reply?

Your team still needs a callback plan. A text sent is not a job booked. Keep the missed call visible until someone books, the caller declines or the request reaches the person responsible for it.

What are your missed calls worth?

Those inputs put about $3,248 in potential bookings at stake each month.

Missed calls per week × 4.33 weeks × average value × the share that would book. Booking value is not profit or a promise of recovered sales.

Frequently asked questions

Before you choose an answering service

Is a missed call enough consent for marketing texts?

Do not treat it as permission for marketing. Keep any response tied to the request, obtain the consent required for the message you send, and honor opt-outs.

Does carrier registration replace consent?

No. A2P 10DLC is carrier registration. TCPA consent and opt-out handling are separate requirements.

What does Front Desk cost?

FlowChainLabs Front Desk has three plans: Core $697, Plus $997 and Pro $1,497 a month. Each added location is $397 a month. No contract, no per-minute bills, unlimited changes. See every plan at https://flowchainlabs.com/front-desk.

Can I keep my business number?

Yes. Keep the number customers already call and forward the calls you want Front Desk to answer.

Does it book appointments?

It books available times on your connected calendar, using your service area and booking rules. We check the connection to your scheduling software before promising a direct booking there.

What happens when a caller needs a person?

It takes the caller's name, callback number and reason for calling. Pro adds live transfer to your team using your handoff rules. A person decides what needs a visit or a specialist.

Does the price go up in a busy month?

There are no per-minute bills. Pick the plan for the work you need handled, rather than a minute allowance.

Who changes the answers when my hours change?

We do. Send the new hours, service area or booking instructions and we update the front desk for you.

Answer the next call. Book the next job.
