How to choose a law firm answering service

A missed call at a law firm is often a client who called the next firm on the list. Five questions sort the options.

  • What intake does it take? Name, callback number, practice area, how they heard about you and the facts your attorneys need before a consultation.
  • Does it book the consultation or only take a message? A message still needs someone to call back before the caller tries another firm.
  • How does it handle a caller who is not a fit? It should say so politely and give the next step you choose, not book a consultation you will cancel.
  • Does it stay out of legal advice? The front desk answers questions about your firm, hours and process. It never tells a caller what their case is worth.
  • Test it before you sign. During a trial, call as a new injury client after hours, an existing client asking for an update and a caller from outside your practice area.

Existing clients and new callers need different handling

A new caller needs intake and a booking. An existing client needs a message to the right attorney or paralegal. The front desk asks which one it is and routes each the way you set, so new business is never stuck behind status calls.

What happens after hours?

Calls after 5 PM and on weekends get the same intake and booking. On Pro, urgent matters can transfer to the attorney on call using your rules. Everything else books for the next open consultation time.

What are your missed calls worth?

Those inputs put about $3,248 in potential bookings at stake each month.

Missed calls per week × 4.33 weeks × average value × the share that would book. Booking value is not profit or a promise of recovered sales.

That's more than Core costs. Core is $697 a month. Click here to never miss a call again

Before you choose a law firm answering service

Does it give legal advice?

No. It answers questions about your firm, collects intake and books consultations. Legal questions go to your attorneys.

Can it tell a new client from an existing one?

Yes. It asks, then takes intake and books a new caller, or takes a message for the right person when an existing client calls.

What does Front Desk cost?

FlowChainLabs Front Desk has three plans: Core $697, Plus $997 and Pro $1,497 a month. Each added location is $397 a month. No contract, no per-minute bills. Script, hours and service changes included. See every plan at https://flowchainlabs.com/front-desk.

Can I keep my business number?

Yes. Keep the number customers already call and forward the calls you want Front Desk to answer.

Does it book appointments?

It books available times on your connected calendar, using your service area and booking rules. We check the connection to your scheduling software before promising a direct booking there.

What happens when a caller needs a person?

It takes the caller's name, callback number and reason for calling. Pro adds live transfer to your team using your handoff rules. A person decides what needs a visit or a specialist.

Does the price go up in a busy month?

There are no per-minute bills. Pick the plan for the work you need handled, rather than a minute allowance.

Who changes the answers when my hours change?

We do, the same day. Send the new hours, service area or booking instructions and we update the front desk for you.

Answer the next call. Book the next consultation.
